IN/NEARSHORE FISHING BY SEASON

Here in the Southern Outer Banks region of North Carolina, we are blessed with some of the best fishing in the world. Many who are familiar with our area know that the many shipwrecks along our shores, known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” offer a wonderful breeding ground for many varieties of fish. Each season of the year offers its unique bountiful harvest from the sea. When planning your trip, it is often helpful to know what fish you may plan on catching depending on the season. Here is a breakdown of what you might plan on catching during each season:

Spring – Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Atlantic Bonito, Chopper Blues (up to 15 pounds), Cobia, and Flounder (when open).
Summer –Flounder, Redfish, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Jack Crevalle, Sharks, and other species as well.
Fall – Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, Black Drum, False Albacore and Gray Trout.
Winter – Redfish, Gray Trout, Speckled Trout Black Drum, and Sheepshead in January & February.
