~Inshore & Near Shore Fishing~

image79

Here on the Southern Outer Banks region of North Carolina, we are blessed with some of the best fishing in the world.  Many who are familiar with our area know that the many shipwrecks along our shores, known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” offer a wonderful breeding ground for many varieties of fish.  Each season of the year offers its own bountiful harvest from the sea.  When planning your trip, it is often helpful to know what fish you may plan on catching depending on the season. Here is a breakdown of what you might plan on catching during each season:

  • Spring – Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Chopper Blues (up to twenty pounds), Cobia, and Flounder (when open).
  • Summer –Flounder, Redfish, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish (night fishing only), and sometimes other species .
  • Fall – Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, Black drum, False Albacore and occasionally King Mackerel
  • Winter – Mainly upper slot Redfish and some nice Speckled Trout during January and February along the beaches of the local barrier islands.
